KNOW BEFORE YOU BLOW

A bit about us...

Sotha Sok
I’m a DEM specialist with a strong interest in computers. I currently work in the Microelectronics department troubleshooting computer problems. When I graduate I hope to pursue a career in Information Technology Management. In my spare time I enjoy traveling and the outdoors. Eventually I would love to one day visit the Galapagos Islands. My favourite TV shows are Dexter, Man vs. Wild, and Manswers. My duties include organizing the blog and structuring the schedule and layout of our assignment.

Mackenzie Ellis
My name is Mackenzie Ellis. I am a second year CCIT/Sociology Major. I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario with one younger sister. I have a passion for music and one day I hope to pursue a career as the CEO of a recording label. I like to make music in my spare time and collect old hip-hop albums. I have a blog and try to keep it updated as much as possible (www.northernspotlight.blogspot.com). I am an optimistic guy and try to look at the bright side of things
J. I will be contributing to the writing, filming and editing process of our video as well as being responsible for field research and interviews with students.

Robyn Lew
Hi! I'm Robyn, and I was born and raised in Guelph Ontario. Aside from my duties as a 2nd year CCIT student, I enjoy spending my spare time on campus with my sketchbook, good films, and HBO. Although I am constantly on the quest to find the deeper meaning of life through the wisdom of my friends, family and Deepak Chopra, I keep myself grounded with Pet Society, letting loose to Dance Mix '95, and tuning in to 60 Minutes on Sunday evenings. During our campaign, I will be the Creative Director of our video and poster design, and I will be conducting on-campus interviews with students.

Our Campaign:

Due to the increasing amount of toxins in the environment, human health has been hit hard and society is progressing towards an epidemic of infertility. Currently, over six million people in North America are unable to conceive. As a result of this problem, there is a higher demand for sperm and egg donors. With the economic downfall, more people are feeling pressured to donate sperm and eggs for large sums of money. Is this right or wrong?

Everyone is entitled to his or her ethical stance on this issue. However, we are here to raise awareness to the young adult demographic, specifically between the ages of 18 to 30 year olds about the positive impacts and the consequences of donating sperm and eggs. The rise in costs of tuition and living expenses has sky-rocketed over the past few years and does not show signs of slowing down. In addition to the economic recession people have been turning to alternative methods of obtaining money. Our objective is to support donors with the right intentions, as well as inform those who may be interested in donating only for financial reasons.

Our group has chosen to bring about this awareness by making a film depicting the facts and opinions that surround this issue. This video will then be posted on YouTube where we will monitor the number of views that it receives. To engage people in the campaign we will also create a Blog where anyone is able to give their input on the subject. The group also plans on drawing attention to these websites through the use of posters. We will market the campaign heavily and use the “word of mouth” tactic as our driving force in spreading the word. Our results will be measured through the amount of hits our video receives and the feedback from our audience via blogs, comments, etc.
We hope to create a positive movement surrounding infertility and influence responsible, informed decisions among young adults.
